Course materials: Course handbook, coding examples and videos are supplied.

Evaluations: Evaluations will be taken continuously and a certificate of completion will be issued.

Course Contents:

Week 1: Java Programming Basics

Week 2: Java Programming Object Orientated programming

Week 3: Database principles and SQL.

Week 4: Data Structures, I/O Fundamentals.

Week 5: Database Applications with JDBC

Week 6: Lab Week. Create an airline booking system, or choose from a few interesting options.

Week 7: Fundamentals of the web: HTTP protocols, HTML & CSS. Use open-source development tools. front-end technologies: JavaScript, jQuery, AJAX and responsive design. Practical: Create a front-end, choose from a few interesting examples.

Week 8: Java FX

Week 9: Android Apps with the Android Studio

Week 10: Lab week. Create a game.

Week 11: Java Test-Driven Development with JUnit

Week 12: Final project and Theory test, serving as exam prep for the Oracle Exams.

More information:

This course runs on Saturdays 12noon- 5pm , with homework for the rest of the week. The first hour of every lesson covers questions and evaluating the homework.

During the week, there are a one-hour online question and revision sessions available to student on request.

The rest of the week all homework is done independantly using ou course material: Notes, examples and videos.

You could do this course part-time while working.
